Choosing the Right Business Card Finish in Dubai

Matte, glossy, velvet, spot UV or gold foil? Each finish changes how your card feels in the hand and what it costs. Here is how to pick the right one for your business.

A business card is often the first physical thing a client keeps from you. In Dubai, where a single meeting can lead to a long relationship, the weight and finish of that card quietly says a lot about your business. Here is what each option actually does.

Start with the paper weight

Most cards we print are on 350gsm or 400gsm art card. At 300gsm a card feels light and bends easily. At 400gsm and above it feels solid and premium. If budget allows, 400gsm is the single easiest upgrade you can make — it is noticed immediately, before anyone reads a word.

Matte vs glossy lamination

Glossy lamination makes colours pop and photographs look rich. It also shows fingerprints and cannot be written on. Matte lamination is softer, more modern, and hides handling marks. For most corporate cards in the UAE, matte is the safer choice; glossy suits retail, food and photography businesses where colour is the selling point.

Velvet or soft-touch lamination

Velvet lamination adds a suede-like texture. It costs more than standard matte but the difference is felt instantly. It pairs beautifully with spot UV, where a glossy raised varnish is applied only over your logo — the contrast between the soft background and the sharp glossy element is what makes the card memorable.

Gold and silver foil

Foil stamping presses metallic film into the card with heat. It is genuinely reflective in a way printed gold ink never is. Use it sparingly — a foiled logo or a thin foiled border reads as expensive, while a fully foiled card usually reads as loud.

Round corners

A small detail that changes the whole feel. Rounded corners suit clinics, salons, cafes and creative businesses. They also survive a wallet better than sharp corners, which fray.

A practical recommendation

If you are unsure, order 400gsm with matte lamination and spot UV on the logo only. It is the combination we reprint most often for repeat clients, it photographs well, and it stays within a sensible budget at 500 or 1000 pieces.
